Our Staff
Dr. David Wright, has been a golf teaching professional for over 20 years. He has received numerous accolades for excellence as a golf instructor, including:
Dr. Wright's students range from beginner to professional levels. He works with over 100 tour players worldwide. He conducts golf schools and individual lessons at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, California, as well as at other select national and international locations. He has authored two golf books and numerous videos and teaching aids. Dr. Wright is also in his fifth year as an Assistant Coach to the University of Southern California Men's and Women's Golf Teams. During his tenure, the Men's and Women's teams have combined to win 3 conference championships, an NCAA Regional Championship and an NCAA National Championship. Dr Wright has perhaps the most diverse background of any PGA instructor in the world. Prior to becoming a golf professional, he earned a two doctorate degrees in Psychology. His areas of specialization are in the Psychology of Learning and Psychophysiology with emphasis upon both research and clinical psychology. He started and ran one of the first pain management centers in Southern California and was a full time member of the faculty of the University of Southern California School Of Medicine for 4 years. He has remained a member of the clinical faculty of the School of Medicine for 23 years. As one of the top teachers in America, Dr. Wright is able to draw upon this diverse background to help golfers reach their maximum potential.
Kent Racz, PGA, is Director of the Canadian Division of the Wright Balance Golf Academy and Corporate Outings and Senior Vice President of Wright Balance Golf Academy. Kent is a Golf Teaching Professional at Calgary Country Club, Calgary, Canada. He began working with Dr. Wright after attending a multiple day Wright Balance Golf Academy previously known as Mind Under Par Golf School, 6 years ago. Kent has attended and assisted in instruction in the Wright Balance and Corporate Outings in both the United States and Canada on numerous occasions over the past 5 years. He travels to the United States frequently during each year to teach with Dr. Wright. Kent is also Co-Director of all International Golf Schools and overseas international instruction and product development.
European Golf Professional Franceso Semeraro hails from Bari, Italy. He was a member of the 1980 Italian Olympic Wrestling Team. He has made numerous annual trips to work with Dr. Wright and learn the Wright Balance teaching methods. Franceso heads the European teaching division for the Wright Balance Golf Academy. Francesco works closely with Kent Racz in both Golf Schools and Product Development for the European Community.
Jim Smith, Ph.D. has been a research physicist for over 30 years, receiving a variety of professional awards. He has a doctorate in experimental physics and he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in biophysics. He has served on numerous national committees and advisory boards, and has co-authored over 100 technical research papers and reports. Dr. Smith has been a consultant with Wright Balance Golf Academy for three years. He co-designed the putter face bubble and collaborates weekly with Dr. Wright regarding the grip fitting system, set up and swing measurement systems and the physics of the golf swing as related to set up. He currently lives in Duluth, Georgia with his wife, June.
Michael Mellman, MD is the Team Physician for MLB Los Angeles Dodgers, NHL Los Angeles Kings, and he is the Director of Sports Medicine at Centinella Hospital and Medical Consultant for the Los Angeles division of HealthSouth. Dr. Mellman has been an advisor to the Wright Balance Golf Academy for 4 years. Most recently, Dr. Mellman is working with Dr. Wright in organizing a medical research team of spine specialists and ophthalmologists to study the anatomical and visual factors related to balance, club path and the relationship between these factors and the perception of points on a players target line as a straight line. Dr. Mellman is also involved in the biomechanics study of the “Science” of various set up positions on club path.
Susumu Matsumoto, former Asian Tour Player and student of Dr. David Wright, is Director of the Japanese division of instruction for Dr. David Wright’s Golf Academy in both Japan and the United States. Susumu has assisted in instruction and translation in our Golf Schools for over 10 years. He has translated numerous golf articles for publication in Japanese. Currently he assists Dr Wright in teaching Asian Tour Players
Pat Burke is a PGA and Australian Tours Veteran. Pat won the Australian Tournament Players Championship and the Victoria Open while playing the Australian Tour. He finished second in the Australian Tour Order of Merit. Pat played the PGA Tour for 8 years before being sidelined with an injury. He has worked with Dr. Wright since 1990. Currently he assists in Golf Schools. He is closely involved in the research in the biomechanics lab on grip size and balance. |
